Hitchin Band Fun Pages!
Missed Practice Excuses - Some reasons for not being at a practice...
Windy....
While sat in my room in Orlando I sent my apologies (via
E Mail) for not being able to make practice Thursday due
to a Hurricane! Our flight home has been cancelled for 2
days due to Hurricane Floyd. Luckily it stayed about 100
miles off the coast so the winds here were not too bad (50mph)
Original forecasts had it at 80 mph plus inland.
I got a reply saying that it was a pretty good excuse! We
also have one player who regularly phones just after
practice starts, to say he has overslept!
Dog-eared......
I know an ex-player in our band who used the excuse
"My dog ate my music" funnily enough it was
true .... the dog HAD gone bezerk and eaten his music!
Planning ahead....
The best one I ever heard was made by our conductor:
Someone asked if we could do a concert on a date two
months later. "I'm sorry, I don't think we can make
that. I believe the band is booked to play on a funeral
that day..." I suppose they were keeping the body in
the freezer...
Overkill...
We had a Bb bass player years ago who had 6
grandmothers, all of whom unfortunately died in the 2
years in which he was in the band.
More Wind.....
It happened to me whilst over at our head office in
Monroe, North Carolina. Hurricane Floyd was due to hit on
Thursday morning and I was due to fly back to Manchester
via New York the Thursday afternoon to make a practice on
Friday evening prior to a concert on Saturday.
My flight on Thursday to NY was cancelled due to Floyd
and I had to ring our secretary up from NC to apologise
that I was going to miss rehearsal.
It's not an excuse I think I'll be able to repeat. That
wind missed going over the top of us by about 150 miles -
too close for comfort :-)
