Hitchin Band Appoints New Musical Director

Hitchin Band is pleased to announce it's new Musical Director, Mr Ian Graves.

Ian joins us in time to prepare for the 2006 Area contest where the band will compete in the second section after gaining promotion (as well as a trip to the National Finals) in 2005.

Ian brings with him a wealth of musical knowledge having served in The Band of The Life Guards for twenty-five years. He held the position of Principal Cornet for fifteen years and was appointed Trumpet Major of The Life Guards in 1991, retiring as Band Corporal Major in 2001.

Ian has played at many State and Ceremonial functions and travelled the world extensively with The Life Guards. As a young man, Ian played with a number of brass bands in the Midlands and Yorkshire where he gained a firm grounding in the world of contesting.

More recently, he has conducted local brass bands and is once again looking forward to contesting with Hitchin Band.
