A Very Hot Day for a Long Blow
Saturday 1st July saw Hitchin Band undertake a marathon blow in the centre of Hitchin to raise funds towards
their upkeep. Starting at 9am and going on until into the England football match, the band played nearly 100 different pieces of
music - without repeating anything!
The weather started off hot, and it didn't get any cooler with temperatures being over 30C. The band is
grateful to Hitchin Town Centre Initiative for the marquee they provided which kept the worst of the sun off most of the band.
The Town Square was an ideal venue with many people staying around just to listen to the band.
With refreshments on hand from local retailers, many people stayed in the town much longer than they had planned.
With prizes for "name that tune" as well as children's games, the entertainment was not just about raising
funds for the band but entertaining the people who were in the area. Many people requested specific tunes to be played by the
band whilst others just enjoyed the wide choice of music played. Even the football fans who congregated later in the day
appreciated some of the musical choices especially the Queen medley including "We will Rock You" and "We are the Champions"
(although sadly this didn't turn out to be the case for England!)
