Hitchin Youth Band

Hitchin Band is a brass band with a tradition of nearly 150 years. But it has never had a Youth Band...until now!
In November, rehearsals for the new Youth Band started with budding young brass players having the chance to
develop their skills whilst enjoying the camaraderie of playing alongside other young people.

Youth band trip out to Stevenage Hollywood Bowl set for Saturday 17th April. Details to follow - can't wait!
The youth band are busy rehearsing for a 'mini concert' performance on Monday 15th March 7.30pm.

This will be a great opportunity for us to perform some of the pieces we have been rehearsing,
plus a chance for the 'seniors'to hear how we're getting along. Youth band members will then be treated to a
performance of the area test piece from the senior band. I don't know which players will be more nervous!
Following a day of very successful visits to local schools last October, youth band volunteers are now booked
to perform at five more local schools on the 25th March. Hopefully this will help to advertise what we do and
encourage more new recruits along.

In order to promote the new Youth Band, members of the senior band spent a day visiting local schools in order to
spread the word. On Wednesday 21st October, Ickleford Primary, Samuel Lucas JMI, The William Ransom Primary and
Almond Hill Juniors were all given a taste of what brass banding can offer young people. The ensemble performed several
well known tunes as well as giving children the opportunity to have a go themselves. At each school, the band was
overwhelmed by how enthusiastic the children were, not to mention what a great sound some of them could make on a
brass instrument! Sign them up!

Hitchin Youth Band welcomes all young brass players from beginner to intermediate. We have a selection of instruments
available to lend out.
