I am in this photo and am second from the right, back row, (with the glasses on). In the photo I am 15 years old. I joined the band as a percussionist and although that it was I played when we worked, Bob Howard the band leader (centre front row) was teaching me to play the cornet and so that is what I held for the photo session. At the age of 18 years I turned professional as a drummer and retired from a life in music in July 2001. The Hitchin band was a great grounding for my future professional career. Great times and great memories.

I played for Hitchin band from 1957 to 1968 under Bob Howard as bandmaster, during which time we moved from 4th to 2nd section. I played Bb bass and I am sitting on the front row, far right. I recognise most of the band members in this photo. I enjoyed my time with Hitchin, until I moved to Northamptonshire in 1968. Since then I've played for Raunds, Market Harborough, Corby District, Kettering, Rushden Town and Rushden Windmill. I am still playing for the 60's club band based in Rothwell (now on Eb bass) and help out several others.
